Crime rates in Marbella and Malaga fall October 20, 2009

Recently, the National Police (Policia Nacional) in a report released some encouraging figures in terms of the overall crime rate in Marbella and the Malaga province. The report stated that the police efficiency has improved this year from 32 to 38 per cent while the number of arrests made, was around 5,623 in comparison to 4,736 from the previous year.

The report also added that the general crime rate in Marbella has more positive statistics than the provincial reports, as the popular resort town has recorded a fall of crime rate by 11 percent this year while Malaga in general has been around 5.5 percent. There have been however an increase in the reports of crimes made to the police, but subsequently the competence of police in resolving many cases, counting the number of arrests has also increased significantly.

Spanish law recognises both civil and religious marriages, but only through a proper channel of documentation.

With its rich history, culture, colour and natural beauty, a wedding in Spain is nothing but a dream come true for many couples. Spanish law permits foreigners to marry in Spain, but to jump over some of the legal hurdles - it is necessary for one party to have been a legal resident of Spain for at least two years.

The minimum legal age for marriage in Spain has been defined as ‘18’ for both boys and girls. The administrative procedure or requirements vary from region to region; hence it is recommended to ask the local authority for detailed legal requirements. Usually, it takes around 30 to 45 days to get approval of a marriage application.

We understand that Aldea Asesores, SL have filed for ‘creditor protection’ which means an administrator is appointed by the Spanish Courts to run the Company.

The duty of advising all of Aldea Asesores’ clients of the situation falls to the Administrator – they should have communicated by post or email.

Cost of living in Spain September 28, 2009

Well, it’s a common question asked by every holidaymaker, job seeker, expat moving to Spain for a second home or retiring in Spain. But the cost of living is something that depends on your lifestyle and the area where you want to be living in. No doubt, Spain is much cheaper compared to the UK and some other European Union countries but considering the increasing prices of everyday commodities due to recession, one might even find these increases a little surprising.
