Learning Spanish in Spain

If you are planning to enjoy a vacation in Spain, or moving here for business or perhaps even a study tour, one sensible thing you can do is learn a bit of the local language. You may have plenty of options available to learn Spanish online or enroll the help of a tutor in your home country, but learning Spanish in Spain will be an altogether new experience for you.

There are numerous language schools scattered in almost all parts of Spain which in addition to standard classroom tuition offer integrated cultural tours so that you can enjoy the flavor of Hispanic culture whilst making yourself able to communicate with the Spanish people. While doing so, it’s a certainty that you will have the one of the best holiday experiences.

The popularity and value of Spanish as a language can easily be understood by the fact that it is the second most spoken language in the world. This is the reason why so many travellers prefer cities like Malaga, Madrid, Marbella, Granada, Valencia, Alicante, etc. to enrol in one of those language schools to get themselves versed with the language. You can choose the level you wish to start from so if your level of Spanish is nil, you can start at the basic level, everyone starts somewhere!

To mix with the wonderful people of Spain and to experience how friendly they are, a few months in Spain participating in an immersed course is one of the best ways to understand the society and custom. Usually, courses of all levels and all abilities vary from two weeks to several months, so if you are a beginner or already have the basics, you can best choose your own starting point.

Professionals or executives

For the professionals or executives there are some special courses such as teachers training, tourism studies and special summer courses. In most language schools, the basic “diploma” may require at least eight to nine months study in Spain.

Almost all language schools are accredited by the Cervantes Institute, the Spanish government aided institution of the Spanish language for foreigners. It offers Diplomas of Spanish as Foreign Language (DELE) on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture. The DELE is split into three levels: Certificado Inicial de Espanol, Diploma Basico de Espanol, and Diploma Superior de Espanol.

Apart from this, there are also a combination of courses offered by many schools to make your Spanish language study more interesting, these include: Hispanic history, culture, literature, art and even classes for flamenco dance, riding, golf, etc. Schools and universities in Spain also offer accommodation facilities in the form of home-stays or shared apartments, so you won’t face the higher expense of residing in a resort or hotel, if you don’t want to.

If you are in Spain for a shorter period, say a month or so, you still can attain a two to three week Spanish language course for the basics. And while travelling inside Spain, don’t forget to take a good dictionary with you; it will help you in translating certain things from your language to Spanish. Taken as a whole, your learning of Spanish language in Spain will be an exciting one in conjunction with the spectacular beauty, laid-back lifestyle and sociable people.
